Rangda and Major Stars played Out of the Blue Too – 3/5

Last Saturday, Cambridge’s Out of the Blue Too hosted a stellar double bill of exploratory psych-rock madness featuring Chris Corsano, Ben Chasny and Sir Richard Bishop’s Rangda and local luminaries Major Stars.

Wrekmeister Harmonies and Bell Witch played O’Brien’s Pub – 3/4

Friday night at Allston’s O’Brien’s Pub welcomed a supremely heavy bill topped by co-headliners in Chicago’s Wrekmeister Harmonies and Seattle duo Bell Witch.

Holy Holy played The Wilbur – 1/21

Holy Holy played The Wilbur – 1/21

Last Thursday, as I had the previous Thursday, I gathered with a group of mourning music fans for a David Bowie tribute show. In contrast to Out of the Blue’s rapidly assembled survey of our weird and wonderful local acts, however, Holy Holy’s stop at

King Diamond played the Orpheum – 11/24

King Diamond played the Orpheum – 11/24

Danish heavy metal lifer King Diamond descended upon Boston’s Orpheum with his eponymous band last week for a show that promised a front-to-back performance of their 1987 favorite Abigail, along with a sampling of other career highlights.

Mitski played Northeastern – 11/9

Mitski played Northeastern – 11/9

Brooklyn-based and Boston-beloved singer/songwriter Mitski stopped by Northeastern’s central Starbucks location/performance space earlier this month for a solo set of her disarmingly beautiful songs. Deafheaven played Royale – 11/3

Deafheaven played Royale – 11/3

If we’ve met, you’re probably aware of my feelings on Deafheaven. The California-based black/post/gaze/whatever-metal band have been one of my favorite working acts since the release of their 2013 breakthrough Sunbather, and I talk about this frequently. They released their third record, New Bermuda, in October and
