Rangda and Major Stars played Out of the Blue Too – 3/5
Last Saturday, Cambridge’s Out of the Blue Too hosted a stellar double bill of exploratory psych-rock madness featuring Chris Corsano, Ben Chasny and Sir Richard Bishop’s Rangda and local luminaries Major Stars.
I missed openers New Pope due to a Globe assignment across town, but arrived in time to grab a front row seat (literally, we all sat on the floor) for Rangda’s hypnotizing set. Guitarists Chasny and Bishop wove spellbinding magic around Corsano’s virtuosic drumming on cuts from this year’s The Heretic’s Bargain and elsewhere (including a birthday dedication of “Night Porter” to my esteemed concert photography colleague Tim Bugbee). Major Stars, with a Boston debut of a new vocalist, followed up with a typically fiery set of guitar heroics from bandleaders Wayne Rogers and Kate Biggar.
