Gig Watch: June 2025

Shows not to miss in and around Boston for the month of June.

Full disclosure this month: I’m in the middle of moving and have definitely been less plugged into the gig scene than usual as a result. Nonetheless, I still gathered up some fine June offerings to highlight:

6/5 – Dean Wareham @ The Sinclair

Galaxie 500 and Luna frontman Dean Wareham brings a tour supporting his latest solo record That’s the Price of Loving Me to Cambridge.

6/7 – Dutch Interior @ Warehouse XI

L.A. indie/alt-country crew Dutch Interior (who were, successfully, pitched to me as a “Wilco-meets-Acetone” vibe) hit Somerville supporting March’s great Moneyball.

6/7 – Ameokama @ Deep Cuts

Across town, former Dreamwell guitarist Aki McCullough marks both the release of her genre-spanning first solo LP as Ameokama and the project’s live debut over in Medford.

6/12 – Perfume Genius @ Royale

Art-pop auteur Mike Hadreas returned as Perfume Genius earlier this year with 7th LP Glory, and he’ll bring his always-transfixing live show back to town this month.

6/15 – Karate @ The Sinclair

’90s/’00s giants of indie-jazz-rock-slowcore (you can really throw a hundred subgenres at this band) Karate first reunited for shows back in 2022, and they’re officially back to full-time status with a new record as of last year and a supporting tour this spring.

6/21 – Hallelujah the Hills @ Deep Cuts

Local favorites HTH celebrate their sprawling, insanely ambitious new quadruple-LP Deck with a release show at Deep Cuts.

6/21 – Savak / Lupo Citta / The Whimbrels / Andy Cohen @ O’Brien’s Pub

And in a tough conflict, a dream bill for a certain type of indie rocker hits OB’s with Brooklyn post-punks Savak, local trio Lupo Citta (featuring the legendary Chris Brokaw) and Silkworm’s Andy Cohen.

6/26 – Boldy James @ Brighton Music Hall

Prolific Detroit wordsmith Boldy James heads to Allston this month on the heels of the five-plus projects (!) he’s already dropped this year.

6/27 – FKA Twigs @ Roadrunner

R&B/art-pop polymath FKA Twigs makes her first Boston appearance since 2019 toward’s the month’s end, touring behind January’s Eusexua. 

6/28 – Godspeed You! Black Emperor @ Roadrunner

Post-rock greats GY!BE make up for last year’s tour cancellation with a new date in Allston.

6/29 – Preoccupations @ Middle East Upstairs

And last but not least, Calgary post-punks Preoccupations headline an intimate gig (and probable sell-out) at the Mid East.
