Gig Watch – February 2025

Father John Misty at Paradise Rock Club, March 2015

Shows not to miss in and around Boston for the month of February.

__________

It’s the shortest month of the year – maximize your gig time wisely. My picks for February below.

2/6 – Really Great @ O’Brien’s Pub

Local power-pop institution Really Great celebrate the release of their new record Be The Light On with a Thursday night gig at OB’s.

2/7 – Geordie Greep @ Paradise Rock Club

Former Black Midi frontman Geordie Greep brings his first major solo tour to Boston in support of last year’s inspired and out-there The New Sound.

2/7 – Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats @ Somerville Theater

U.K. doom-psych collective Uncle Acid drew inspiration from classic Giallo films for last year’s sprawling Nell’ ora blu, so it’s only fitting they’d be playing a storied cinema on the local stop of their winter tour.

2/8 – Beeef @ The Rockwell

Cult-favorite indie rockers Beeef are local legends with good reason – no better companions for your pre-Super Bowl Saturday night.

2/11 – Lauren Mayberry @ Royale

After opening a pair of shows on the Postal Service reunion tour and making a stop for an underplay at Brighton Music Hall back in 2023, CHVRCHES singer Lauren Mayberry returns to town for a bigger headliner in support of her first solo LP.

2/12 – Panda Bear / Toro Y Moi @ Roadrunner

The dream of the 2010s lives at Roadrunner this month via a team-up from Animal Collective’s Panda Bear and chillwave’d neo-psych auteur Toro Y Moi.

2/14 – Jilted Lovers: A Valentine’s Day Cover Show @ Deep Cuts

A cast of local luminaries join forces for some seasonally-appropriate covers sets at Deep Cuts, running the gamut from The Magnetic Fields to Chappell Roan.

2/15 – Molchat Doma @ Roadrunner

Belarusian coldwave sensations Molchat Doma return to Roadrunner for a vibey Saturday night supporting last year’s Belaya polosa.

2/15 – Fuming Mouth / High Command / Final Gasp @ Sonia

Across town, a monster bill featuring some of greater Boston’s finest purveyors of death metal, thrash and gothic heaviness converge on Central Square’s Sonia.

2/19 – Alcest / Mono @ Royale

At their first Boston appearance in almost 7 years, French blackgaze greats Alcest head to Royale accompanied by majestic Japanese post-rockers Mono.

2/22 – Father John Misty / Destroyer @ MGM Music Hall

Silver-tongued singer/songwriter Josh Tillman returned as Father John Misty late last year with what might be his best record to date in Mahashmashana (which would’ve topped my 2024 year-end list, had I ever shared it), and the record’s supporting tour hits MGM on this Saturday night with a brilliantly-matched opener in Dan Bejar’s Destroyer.

2/28 – The Bevis Frond / Oneida @ Crystal Ballroom

What’s being dubbed the first U.S. tour in 25 years for prolific U.K. psych project The Bevis Frond (though main man Nick Saloman has performed under the name on other occasions) kicks off on the last day of the month in Somerville, joined by legendary NYC experimental rockers Oneida.
