Gig Watch – January 2025

Shows not to miss in and around Boston for the month of January.
__________
It’s a slower month for shows than usual as we all drag ourselves from the embers of the holidays and back to work, but all the more reason to prioritize some live music. Some picks below.
1/9 – Thalia Zedek / Dyr Faser / Hidden Fountain at Notch Brighton
Synths, psych and stormy indie rock unite for a top-notch local bill (which also happens to be free) at Notch’s Brighton taproom.
1/17 – Grass Is Green /Speedy Ortiz / Pile at Arts at the Armory
It’s a 2010s Exploding In Sound family reunion at the Armory, topped by the makeup appearance from Grass Is Green after their local return was spoiled by Covid ahead of last year’s Nice, a Fest.
1/21 – This Is Lorelei at The Rockwell
Water From Your Eyes’ Nate Amos brings his solo indie pop project back to town in support of last year’s excellent Box for Buddy, Box for Star.
1/25 – Rong / Buck / A Monolithic Dome / Greylock at O’Brien’s Pub
A night of the weird, the heavy and the unpredictable awaits at OB’s with gonzo noise-rockers Rong, Elizabeth Colour Wheel offshoot A Monolithic Dome and beyond – lit by the incomparable Dregs Liquid Light Show.
1/26 – Porridge Radio at Brighton Music Hall
U.K. post-punk/indie rockers Porridge Radio finally play their long-awaited first Boston show this month at BMH – we’ll call it an official makeup for an August 2020 date at Great Scott which (obviously) never happened.
1/30 – Christian Lee Hutson at Brighton Music Hall
Ever-charming Los Angeles singer-songwriter Christian Lee Hutson supports last year’s Paradise Pop. 10 with a Thursday night headliner in Allston.
1/31 – 2/2 – Something In The Way at Roadrunner / The Sinclair
Technically this one extends into February, but since the Fiddlehead-helmed pre-party is on the last day of the month, we’ll let it slide. The first-annual Something In The Way fest welcomes those post-hardcore heroes and a slew of other notables including Slowdive, American Football, Militarie Gun, Gouge Away and Drop Nineteens across two days at Roadrunner and two nights at The Sinclair.
