The spring thaw begins and gig season picks up. Some picks for March below.
3/1 – Dwelley @ O’Brien’s Pub
Local alt-rockers Dwelley celebrate the release of their new LP Loons at OB’s (whose door time jumps to a jarring 7 p.m. from their standard 8 this month).
3/5 – Kestrels @ O’Brien’s Pub
Nova Scotia shoegazers Kestrels bring their tour supporting February’s great Better Wonder to Allston.
3/6 – Warmduscher @ The Rockwell
The live reputation of U.K. art-punk oddballs Warmduscher precedes them, and Somerville will get a chance to experience it up close at the cozy confines of The Rockwell.
3/7 – Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy @ Royale
After packing out The Sinclair last year performing R.E.M.’s Murmur with their all-star band, Shannon and Narducy return to tackle the Athens legends’ Fables of the Reconstruction at Royale.
3/8 – Friko @ The Sinclair
Rising Chicago indie rockers Friko swing through for their first proper headlining show in greater Boston, supporting their stirring debut Where We Come From, Where We Go From Here.
3/7-3/9 – Ron Carter Quartet @ Regattabar
Veteran jazz bassist Ron Carter has spent his career recording with the likes of Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Chet Baker and Alice Coltrane, to name a few, and he’s one of the few luminaries of his era still on the road. A rare chance to catch a genuine legend in the flesh at a weekend Regattabar residency.
3/10 – Kim Deal @ The Wilbur
Breeders leader and former Pixies foil Kim Deal embarks on a tour behind her first proper solo record Nobody Loves You More that stops in at Boston’s Wilbur.
3/11 – Kraftwerk @ Boch Center Wang Theatre
German electronic pioneers Kraftwerk are back on tour this year, promising a new multimedia show celebrating 50 years of their landmark LP Autobahn.
3/18 – Darkside @ Roadrunner
Producer Nicolas Jaar and guitarist Dave Harrington bring their thrillingly spacey and psychedelic Darkside project back to town for the first time in more than a decade, supporting their third full-length Nothing.
3/22 – Actor Observer / Oldsoul / Girih @ Deep Cuts
Local post-hardcore favorites Actor Observer mark 10 years of 2015’s The Longer Now with a stacked supporting bill in Medford.
3/23 – Ida / Tsunami @ Crystal Ballroom
Two cult-favorites of the ’90s indie world (both of whom have recently gotten the deluxe reissue treatment from the esteemed Numero Group) team up at the Ballroom.
3/25 – Of Montreal @ Royale
Kevin Barnes’ long-running indie-psych-pop collective celebrates the 20th anniversary of fan-favorite The Sunlandic Twins at Royale.
3/26 – Baths @ The Rockwell
Will Wiesenfeld brings the latest iteration of his electronic project Baths to The Rockwell, supporting excellent new album Gut.
3/27 – Horsegirl @ Arts at the Armory
Your favorite indie rock band’s favorite new indie rock band Horsegirl are on the road behind sophomore LP Phonetics On and On this month, stopping in at the Armory.
3/30 – The Hard Quartet @ Paradise Rock Club
Venerable new supergroup The Hard Quartet – featuring members of Pavement, Chavez, The Dirty Three and beyond – make their Boston debut towards the month’s end at the ‘Dise.
