Gig Watch – December 2024

Shows not to miss in and around Boston for the month of December.
__________
The year’s winding down and things are a tad slower on the gig front, but December’s still got some heavy hitters. Some picks below.
12/5 – Uniform / Pharmakon @ Arts at the Armory
The feel-bad event of the season hits the Armory early this month, as industrial shapeshifters Uniform bring their emotionally raw, sonically eviscerating new LP American Standard on the road with NYC noise master Pharmakon in tow.
12/7 – Cowardice / Diva Karr / Lunar Ark @ Widowmaker Brewing Braintree
Sludge, doom and black metal collide with the always-dazzling Dregs Liquid Light Show at Widowmaker’s Braintree taproom.
12/9 – Joyce Manor @ Royale
California power-pop-punk darlings Joyce Manor mark ten years of fan-favorite Never Hungover Again with the stacked supporting cast of Algernon Cadwallader and The Ergs at Royale.
12/11 – Girih / Lowheaven / Sea @ O’Brien’s Pub
Local masters of ethereal heaviness Girih and Sea join Toronto’s Lowheaven for a loud Wednesday at O’Brien’s.
12/12 – The Jesus Lizard @ Roadrunner
One of the truly unmissable live bands returns to Boston, storming Roadrunner with seasick noise-rock grooves and all the David Yow stage-diving mania you can handle, in support of their first new record in over 25 years. And as a bonus: hometown heroes Pile get the opening slot.
12/13 – Vivid Bloom / Main Era / Slow Quit / Still Life Sounds @ Deep Cuts
A who’s-who of local shoegaze and dream-pop favs comes together for a gig benefitting Zumix and Warm Up Boston in Medford.
12/15 – O’Brien’s Pub Holiday Party
Bring a gift for the annual OB’s toy drive and take in one of Boston’s finest Winter traditions with the boozing Santas of The Scrooges. It is, genuinely, The Stooges like you’ve never heard them before.
12/18 – Jozef van Wissem live scores Nosferatu @ Coolidge Corner Theatre
And for something a little left of the dial before the holidays, Dutch composer and lute player Jozef van Wissem takes to the Coolidge stage to perform his score for F.W. Murnau’s iconic Dracula adaptation.
