True Widow and E played Great Scott – 11/14
Boston’s all-star post-punk group E and fuzzed-out Dallas trio True Widow teamed up for a Monday night show at Great Scott last month.
True Widow toured around the U.S. in November with harpist Mary Lattimore, supporting their September release Avvolgere. At their Allston date, the band moved little and said less, turning the focus squarely on their heavy, dour tunes. Their approach is metallic insofar as living and dying by the riff, but skews a bit too ethereal to really qualify as “metal.” It certainly works at high volumes in a live setting, either way.
E played as local support for the night, which also served as a release show for their self-titled debut record (out now on Thrill Jockey). I’ve shot and worked with the band quite a bit this year, and their live shows still impress me every time. The LP comes recommended (although it’s pretty challenging to locate on the streaming services). And do check out the upcoming live dates as well.
