January Friend(s)

A midwinter local gigs recap.

__________

You guys know that one? Good tune. Anyway.

Per usual, January’s been a pretty slow season for touring acts around Boston, but also per usual, there’s been plenty of local action keeping things interesting. I made it to a bunch of hometown-oriented gigs this month but haven’t had the mental fortitude to blog about each individually, given that it’s been kind of difficult to find the mental fortitude to do much of anything lately. Bad times out there, but getting together with likeminded folks and supporting your community and your scene remains one of the best antidotes to the unrelenting horrors of the world at large.

All of which is to say, I’ve got a super-gallery post for you featuring – chronologically – Cade Earick, Never Better Baby and Sweetie tearing up a free O’Brien’s matinee brought to you by Studio 52, a tribute to the music and visual art of the late Drive Like Jehu/Hot Snakes co-leader Rick Froberg starring Chris Brokaw and members of Savak and Girls Against Boys, a Bus Crush album release gig at the Lilypad supported by Doss and Megan From Work, a night at the ambient tea lounge with DJ Wholesale Club and Violet Nox, and an acoustic Monday night at the Model with Marquis Lavoie and Rooftops.

Take a leisurely scroll through the month below.
