Gig Watch: March 2024

Unwound at Numero Twenty, February 2023

Shows not to miss in and around Boston for the month of March.

__________

A touch of spring in the air, many a gig on the horizon. My picks for the month of March below.

3/2 – Mutoid Man @ The Sinclair

Following a medical cancellation of their dates late last year, stoner metal maniacs Mutoid Man make up for lost time with Salem doomsayers Mother Iron Horse in tow.

3/2 – Mary Timony @ Crystal Ballroom

Alternately, on the other side of town, indie rock great Mary Timony (of Ex Hex, Wild Flag, Helium, etc.) headlines the Ballroom in support of her first solo record since the mid ’00s.

3/4 – Omni @ The Rockwell

Propulsive Atlanta post-punks Omni bring their new record Souvenir to the Rockwell for a rollicking Monday evening.

3/7 – Glitterer / Glixen / Gollylagging @ Crystal Ballroom

It’s a triple-G threat with ex-Title Fight-er Ned Russin’s Glitterer, rising shoegazers Glixen and locals Gollylagging teaming up at Crystal.

3/8 – Mclusky @ The Sinclair

Another medically-mandated tour cancellation makes good on its promise to return, as Welsh noise-rock legends Mclusky plot a long-awaited Boston appearance (with top-notch support from locals Minibeast and The Martha’s Vineyard Ferries).

3/9 – Advance Base @ O’Brien’s Pub

The current project of Casiotone for the Painfully Alone’s Owen Ashworth takes over O’Brien’s for the good kind of sad Saturday.

3/10 – Decibel Tour @ Middle East Downstairs

Black metal mania rolls into Central Square on a Sunday night, with the annual Decibel Magazine tour bringing Hulder, Worm, Devil Master and Necrofier to the stage.

3/12 – Danny Brown @ Paradise Rock Club

Fresh off a banner year that saw the release of bombastic JPEGMAFIA collab Scaring the Hoes and the soul-searching solo effort Quaranta, Detroit rapper Danny Brown swings through the Paradise.

3/18 – Ministry / Gary Numan @ Roadrunner

Break out the all-black outfits as a powerhouse goth-industrial bill rounded out by EBM vets Front Line Assembly storms into Allston.

3/21 – Laetitia Sadier @ Arts at the Armory

Voice of the legendary Stereolab Laetitia Sadier brings her solo art-pop endeavors to the Armory on a rare North American tour.

3/22 – Tears from a Grieving Heart / Lunar Ark / The Outlourdes / Mollusk @ O’Brien’s Pub

Saturday night beckons a classic O’Brien’s heavy metal heater, spanning funeral doom, post-sludge, stoner-doom and beyond.

3/25 – Unwound @ Paradise Rock Club

The rightfully-hyped, they-said-it-would-never-happen reunion of post-hardcore icons Unwound finally makes its way to Boston. Essential viewing if you missed them in NYC last year (or even if you didn’t).

3/24-3/25 – The Magnetic Fields @ Roadrunner

Last but never least, indie pop favorites The Magnetic Fields take over Roadrunner for two nights, across which they’ll perform all 69 love songs from their landmark 1999 triple-LP.
