Alex G played Leader Bank Pavilion – 8/25

The cult-favorite singer-songwriter played a co-headlining date with Canadian pals Alvvays and support from Tanukichan at the waterfront.

The last time I saw a headlining Alex G show, the year was 2015, Somerville’s ONCE was still packing out the ballroom and somebody in a furry suit kept crowdsurfing. The intervening eight years have been good to Alexander Giannascoli, who has released a series of acclaimed records and cultivated a dedicated following for his omnivorously-influenced indie rock. This summer found him undertaking one of his biggest tours yet, co-headlining some huge spaces with the help of similarly-beloved indie pop purveyors Alvvays.

I caught last Friday’s big Boston date at the waterside Pavilion, and contributed a few photos to my good pal and colleague Terence Cawley’s review over at The Boston Globe. You can see an expanded gallery of Alex G’s set and the shoegaze-y stylings of openers Tanukichan below. (Gonna hold off on cross-posting the Alvvays shots due to some photo restriction stuff, but see a few at the link).
