Winkler, Dino Gala, Sweet Petunia played the Sil – 8/21
A local bill of overlapping membership sold out the Silhouette Lounge dart room earlier this month.

I saw a lot of Boston-adjacent artists at July’s Nice, a Fest – like, more than 70 of them over the course of the weekend. Many were familiar of course, but among the bands that had eluded me prior, Dino Gala’s artful emo and Winkler’s playful indie pop emerged as standouts. A few weeks later, I naturally had to catch full sets from both at one of the Sil’s now well-established Monday night gigs.
The back room was as packed as I’ve seen it for much of the evening, including a lovely opening set from folksy duo Sweet Petunia. Dino Gala followed up with an impassioned set of their dense, guitar-driven tunes, and Winkler closed things out on a joyful note under the Jonathan Richmanesque direction of singer/guitarist Justin Schaefers. The whole night had a familial air, aided by the fact that all three bands shared some degree of interrelated membership (Sweet Petunia’s Maddy Simpson plays in Winkler, who also share drummer Christian Schmidt and guitarist Alex Massey with Dino Gala). Great bands and a great crowd – can’t ask for a more heartwarming Monday night in Allston.
See photos of all three bands below.
