Richard Youngs and Damon & Naomi played Great Scott – 9/3

ryoungsGreat Scott hosted a particularly unique set of performers on this third night of September, featuring prolific British musician Richard Youngs, ex-Galaxie 500 members Damon & Naomi and Australian oddballs Mad Nanna. Youngs, a sonic chameleon who has been making diverse, uncompromising music since the early 90s, brought only an acoustic guitar with him on his first-ever tour of the United States. His set encompassed gentle folk songs, a winding slide-filled country tune and one pretty amazing instance of audience participation acapella D-beat (you had to be there). Damon & Naomi’s set was a gorgeous and subdued collection of songs spanning the duo’s post-Galaxie career, while Mad Nanna opened the night sounding akin to Jandek fronting an electric anti-pop band.
