Houndsteeth, Lady Pills and Carol played Looney Tunes – 6/13
Folks, I have been waiting a long time to share a new show report here at Noise Floor. I’ve kept things busy(ish) around these parts for the past year and change with mixes and the occasional feature and a plague-summer of guest appearances, but galleries and live reviews have been the heart and soul of this sparsely-read website since I started it in college. It is good to be back.
Granted, we’re not quite in the full swing of things yet, rock-club-wise, but folks are starting to take advantage of the summer weather to make things happen outdoors. Somerville’s ONCE just announced a whole slate of such gigs, and I imagine we’ll be seeing more of Sunday’s ilk in the coming months as well.
And getting to Sunday, it was a very nice time! A hushed and beautiful set from Carol kicked things off, before Lady Pills‘ Ella Boissonnault regaled the crowd with a bevy of new songs and Houndsteeth closed out the day, complete with guest trumpeter. Strangely enough, one of my last pre-pandemic shows – and my last ever at the old Great Scott – featured both Lady Pills and Houndsteeth opening a sold-out gig headlined by Squirrel Flower. Thusly, this lineup felt like the closing of a loop, or some kind of semi-poignant punctuation on this extremely long and concert-less ordeal. Check out photos below, and cheers to much more of this as the summer stretches out before us.
