SEA played ONCE – 2/7

Boston post-doom quartet SEA headlined a release show for their new record at ONCE Ballroom, joined by fellow locals Worshipper, Glacier and Seed.

It was a stacked bill of Greater Boston heaviness in Somerville last Friday night, as SEA celebrated the January release of Impermanence alongside a diverse cast of contemporaries. Seed, who I also caught up with last month, opened the evening on an eerie and brooding note before instrumental skull-crushers Glacier leveled the room with an elemental force befitting their name. Worshipper’s psych-tinged stoner metal lent a well-timed bit of levity to the proceedings, while SEA closed things out with a dark, powerful set highlighting their new songs (and previewing one even newer than that).

Boston is a low-key embarrassment of riches when it comes to heavy music – a fact highlighted by top-to-bottom stellar bills like this one – and it was inspiring to see the community support that by pretty well packing ONCE for all four hours of this behemoth lineup.
