Spirit Adrift played Great Scott – 8/2
Arizona doom-dealers Spirit Adrift headlined Allston’s Great Scott last Thursday with support from Colorado’s Dreadnought and locals InAeona.
Phoenix four-piece Spirit Adrift share a pair of members with death metal up-and-comers Gatecreeper, but the band’s evocative, traditionally-leaning doom is a very different beast – a sweeping contrast to Gatecreeper’s bruising tumult, for one, and a deeply personal project for guitarist/vocalist Nate Garrett to0. The quartet appeared at Great Scott on Thursday night in support of last year’s acclaimed sophomore LP Curse of Conception, delivering a resonant, triumphant set.
Experimental Denver crew Dreadnought provided touring support, infusing progressive black metal with post-rock tendencies, flutes, and the remarkable spectacle of a drummer who could keep time while playing a saxophone. Boston trio InAeona opened the night with their neon-hued, prog-goth heavy metal.
