Scorpions played Blue Hills Bank Pavilion – 9/10

Scorpions played Blue Hills Bank Pavilion – 9/10

The extent of my knowledge of Scorpions prior to a week ago was that they were from Germany and wrote “Rock You Like A Hurricane,” which is kind of the ultimate Big Dumb Rock Song. Apparently, they’re celebrating their 50th (!) anniversary this year and

High On Fire played Royale – 8/17

High On Fire played Royale – 8/17

The dual projects of the inimitable Matt Pike present two very different models for the way a long-running band can function. Defining stoner metal trio Sleep didn’t manage to release a definitive version of their third LP until 5 years after they broke up, and

Jamie xx played Royale – 8/9

Jamie xx played Royale – 8/9

U.K producer Jamie Smith has stepped out from the shadows of his role with moody trio The xx this year to release his solo debut, the vibrant and appropriately titled In Colour. Though he holds onto the ‘xx’ surname as a solo artist, his own work

The Thurston Moore Band played The Sinclair – 8/2

The Thurston Moore Band played The Sinclair – 8/2

It’s been rough going for a Sonic Youth fan since 2011. The band’s indefinite hiatus in the wake of Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon’s separation has gradually revealed itself to be a permanent dissolution, much to our collective disappointment. Although 2009’s The Eternal was a

Thou & The Body played Cuisine en Locale – 7/7

Television played the Paradise – 5/12

I really never expected to see Television. They’re a legendary band with no ostensible reason to embark on proper tours, content to play one-off festival dates and the occasional NYC gig that I would inevitably not be able to get to (case in point: last

White Hills played Great Scott – 5/11

Sunday was one of the first legitimately beautiful days of the obnoxious faux-spring that has cloaked Boston in grey misery for much of the last month or two, and a gorgeous day faded into a warm, weird night in Allston where NYC heavy pysch space-rockers White

Jon Hopkins played The Sinclair – 11/18

An excellent electronic bill of UK producers, headed by Jon Hopkins and rounded out by Clark and Nathan Fake, took over The Sinclair on Monday night. My review is up at Tastemakers, with more photos here.

Built to Spill played Paradise Rock Club – 11/8

Just as they did last June, jam-band-with-indie-cred Built to Spill sold out the Paradise last Friday night for a laid-back show that sported some weird and awesome cover performances. Read my review at Tastemakers, and see the rest of the photos here.

My Bloody Valentine played House of Blues – 11/7

At long, long last, legendary shoegaze band My Bloody Valentine played a Boston date in support of their stellar 2013 album m b v at the House of Blues. No photo passes were issued for the show, but I caught some halfway decent shots on
