Chelsea Wolfe played The Sinclair – 10/19
Gothic rock luminary Chelsea Wolfe headlined a sold-out Sinclair last Thursday with industrial punk duo Youth Code.
Fresh off the release of last month’s doom-tinged Hiss Spun, Wolfe revisited Boston for a comparatively intimate show after last year’s Royale date. She and the band were in fine form, drenched in blood-red light and sounding ominous as ever. And while I’d already caught Wolfe’s last several Boston appearances, the addition of L.A.’s Youth Code insured I’d make this one too. The duo’s electro-industrial-meets-hardcore sound – a heady collision of Ryan George’s jackhammer synths and drum machines and vocalist Sara Taylor’s scorching diatribes – is always a thrill.
A few of my shots of Chelsea accompany my good friend Jackie Swisshelm’s more in-depth thoughts over at Allston Pudding, and a full gallery of both sets is below.
