Boston Calling 2017 – Saturday

Day two of this year’s Boston Calling brought Mumford and Sons, The 1975, The xx, Danny Brown and more to Harvard.

Under sunny skies that marked a welcome departure from opening night, Saturday’s crowds were undoubtedly in a more celebratory mood. The lineup was the least exciting of the three days for my taste, but there was still fun to be had. The xx delivered a confident set that belied their reputation as a listless live band, while The 1975’s widescreen pop hit all of its ambitious marks. Hometown upstart Cousin Stizz prowled through one of the weekend’s finest hip-hop sets on the same stage where Danny Brown would later execute a significant cultural moment by rapping “I Will” in a Korn t-shirt. And say what you will about Mumford, but they’re certainly crowdpleasers.
