The inaugural Deep Shred broadcast went down – 5/3
Deep in an unassuming Boston basement this past Tuesday, a new breed of DIY gig was unfolding. Deep Shred is a just-launched web platform that describes itself as “an all inclusive, virtual show space.” Live performances are streamed online, while Paypal donations are collected and split among the artists. It’s a novel approach to the traditional house show that increases accessibility by eschewing the numerous logistical challenges of getting to and hanging around a basement on a weeknight.
Tuesday’s debut event, which featured local favorites Nice Guys, St. Nothing and Puppy Problems along with Providence’s Lovesick, was by all accounts a success. Over $125 was raised for the bands and technical hiccups were kept to a minimum. Deep Shred co-founder Nick Regan invited me to snap some photos of the evening, and you can check out a gallery below.
And be sure to follow DS on Facebook for the details on future virtual happenings.
