Gig Watch: September 2026

YHWH Nailgun at Fuzzstival – Arts at the Armory – Somerville, MA

Shows not to miss in and around Boston for the month of September.

__________

Autumn is almost here, which means if you’re anything like me, your calendar is rapidly becoming more crowded. My picks for the month below.

9/9 – Iron Maiden @ TD Garden

Heavy metal legends Iron Maiden have officially passed the 50 year mark and are still going strong – they’ll play their first show in Boston proper since 2006 (!) this month.

9/10 – Allston Pudding x Coolidge Corner Theatre

Coolidge Corner’s “Cinema Jukebox” series returns for another AP-presented gig-and-movie, with locals Pushflowers performing ahead of a screening of David Byrne’s charmingly surreal True Stories.

9/13 – Kim Gordon @ Paradise Rock Club

Ex-Sonic Youth-er Kim Gordon continued her late career renaissance with March’s Play Me – a noisy, hip-hop indebted project picking up where 2024’s The Collective left off. She’ll hit the Paradise to support it this month.

9/15 – Truck Violence @ Deep Cuts

Medford plays host to the first Boston-area gig from Flenser-signed noise-rockers Truck Violence.

9/16 – YHWH Nailgun @ Sonia

Fresh off the June release of their 11-minute sophomore LP (it is funny when bands do this) Magazine, singular New York post-industrialists YHWH Nailgun headline Sonia.

9/16 – Ear @ Arts at the Armory

Glitchy NYC electropop project Ear return to town for a venue upgrade, hitting the Armory after selling out the Rockwell earlier this year.

9/17 – Shearling @ Deep Cuts

An offshoot of beloved but relatively short-lived experimental rockers Sprain, Shearling head to Medford for their local debut behind their genre-averse July EP Don’t Look at Me the Way a Dog Might Look at Your Leg.

9/19 – Perennial @ Deep Cuts

Connecticut garage-punk crew Perennial – who always put on an absolute banger live show – celebrate the release of their new record Modernism at another Deep Cuts gig.

9/22 – Loathe / Fleshwater / Prostitute @ House of Blues

In the first of two consecutive stacked gigs at HoB, genre-hopping U.K. metalcore act Loathe headline a bill with MA’s own shoegaze-y post-hardcore outfit Fleshwater and Michigan noise-rockers Prostitute.

9/23 – Mastodon / Deafheaven / Alcest @ House of Blues

And the following night, stoner-sludge lifers Mastodon bring a pair of black metal/shoegaze genre-benders along in Deafheaven and Alcest.

9/24 – Dutch Interior @ Arts at the Armory

Alt-country-ish Long Beach outfit Dutch Interior – whose last LP Moneyball was a 2025 highlight – headline Somerville’s Armory.

9/29 – Frog / Woods @ Crystal Ballroom

And closing out the month, cult favorite indie rockers Frog take to the Ballroom alongside long-running folky Brooklynites Woods.
