Iggy Pop played Roadrunner – 9/25
The iconic Iggy Pop headlined Roadrunner last month, supported by U.K. sibling rockers The Molotovs.
__________
If there were a common thread of thought running through the crowd at Roadrunner last Thursday, it had to be one of astonishment – perhaps even disbelief. At 78, many who have lived the chaotic life of Iggy Pop might reasonably opt for retirement, but the singer born James Osterberg Jr. has doggedly refused any such conventional wisdom over the years. On stage for the opening night of a short East Coast tour, the Stooges frontman, erstwhile Bowie collaborator and lifetime punk icon spent a breathless 90 minutes tearing through a set of primal rock’n’roll with a truly ageless abandon.
I was originally on assignment to cover this gig for the Globe, but since the story wound up not running, felt like I ought to give this full gallery a home elsewhere. Scroll below for shots of Iggy & co. (including Vermont’s own Urian Hackney on the drums and Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner holding it down on lead guitar), plus mod revivalist upstarts The Molotovs on opening duties.
