Gig Watch: September 2025
Shows not to miss in and around Boston for the month of September.
We hate to see summer wind down, but per usual it’s a busy September gig-wise. Some picks below.
9/7 – Outlaw Fest @ Xfinity Center
If you’re not indulging in some emo nostalgia at the extremely sold-out My Chemical Romance Fenway show, you can still score some quite reasonably priced seats to catch the legends Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan on their apparently-yearly summer road trip down in Mansfield.
9/12 – Innumerable Forms @ O’Brien’s Pub
Local death-doom supergroup Innumerable Forms celebrating the release of a crushing new record at the cozy confines of OB’s? What better Friday night can you ask for?
9/12 – Superchunk @ Crystal Ballroom
Ok if you’re less amped about the death metal front, you could also have a pretty great Friday with new-look, same-energy indie rock vets Superchunk over at the Ballroom.
9/13 – Pulp @ The Stage at Suffolk Downs
Jarvis Cocker and the reactivated Britpop legends Pulp finally make their way back to Boston, playing their first local gig in nearly 30 years out at the old racetrack.
9/15 – Nourished By Time @ The Sinclair
Alt-R&B auteur Nourished By Time makes the jump from his last headliner here at Cafe 939 to the big Sinclair stage, supporting last month’s new record The Passionate Ones.
9/15 – Pup / Jeff Rosenstock @ Roadrunner
Two giants of anxious, everything’s-fucked punk rock team up for a massive co-headliner at Roadrunner.
9/17 – Bambara @ Deep Cuts
Bambara’s feral, gothic post-punk makes for one of the most arresting live shows out there, and they’ll bring it Medford this month for their first local gig since the pandemic.
9/17 – Billy Woods @ Brighton Music Hall
Enigmatic rapper and one-half of cult-favorite duo Armand Hammer comes to town on tour behind May’s Golliwog, one of the most acclaimed records yet from a guy who’s got a bunch of them.
9/19 – Sharp Pins @ The Lilypad
When he’s not busy with post-punk trio Lifeguard, Chicago’s Kai Slater makes irresistibly catchy power-pop as Sharp Pins, a project he’ll bring to the tiny Lilypad this month for what’s sure to be a sellout.
9/20 – Turnstile @ The Stage at Suffolk Downs
World-conquering, genre-busting hardcore heroes Turnstile hit the road this fall on their biggest tour yet, with an insanely stacked support bill including Mannequin Pussy, Speed and Jane Remover.
9/21 – Nation of Language @ Royale
Synthpop torchbearers Nation of Language have a new record on the way this month for Sub Pop, which they’ll have opportunity to celebrate here in town on its release weekend.
9/23 – Viagra Boys @ Roadrunner
I’ve only seen Swedish post-dance-punk crew Viagra Boys in a tiny room where seemingly every surface ended up sloshed with beer, but I can only imagine their live show accomplishes a similar sense of unhinged chaos on a much larger scale now that they’re playing Roadrunner-sized rooms.
9/25 – Iggy Pop @ The Stage at Suffolk Downs
How is 78-year-old Iggy Pop still shirtless and belting the lyrics to “T.V. Eye” with youthful abandon for the thrashing masses night after night? That’s not for you and I to know, only to experience this month at the man’s first Boston gig in 9 years.
9/30 – Blackbraid / Lamp of Murmuur @ Middle East
Indigenous black metal project Blackbraid and corpse-painted genre traditionalists Lamp of Murmuur bring the blast-beats to the Mid East Downstairs to close out the month.
