March On

Recapping a globe-trotting March back-to-back at O’Brien’s with Kestrels, Trash Sun, Osmia, Lesser Birds and more.

__________

I often think of O’Brien’s as a spot primarily hosting the talents of Greater Boston and touring bands of the East Coast, so it’s always a little novel when acts from much further afield swing through Allston. Last Tuesday and Wednesday featured a consecutive pair of such appearances, with punky indie rockers Tetsuians journeying all the way from Melbourne, Australia and shoegazers Kestrels making the trek down from Nova Scotia.

Rounding out Tuesday’s bill was a set of heavy, noisy art-punk from Maine’s Osmia, the tight, rhythmic indie rock of Boston’s own Lesser Birds and an explosive garage-punk closing set from Northampton’s Ian St. George.

Wednesday’s show, meanwhile, saw Kestrels showcasing their new LP Better Wonder with support from alt-country-gaze trio Trash Sun and the twang-tinged Slo-Anne. A stacked double-header all in all, from which you can see a whole bunch of photos in the gallery below.
