Locals Only

Recapping a February weekend with some of your friendly Boston rockers.

Do people read blogs anymore? Do people read this blog? The numbers say someone is clicking, so if that’s you, thank you for doing that!
I’m somewhat regularly re-evaluating what Noise Floor is or should do and the kick I’m on to start off this year is more local coverage. I cover lots of Greater Boston bands as it is, but forward momentum often gets the best of me and not every gig gets a writeup or a gallery beyond Instagram. Given how many people are (reasonably!) jumping ship from Meta platforms at the moment, IG isn’t what it once was, which points me back to the honest, unfussy, non-algorithmically-motivated realm of the blog. All of which is a long way of saying that I’m going to make a good faith effort to do more of these roundup-style posts highlighting gigs I’m not necessarily “working” but still shooting. Maybe I permanently borrow “Locals Only” from Allston Pudding or maybe I keep coming up with a new title every time. The series is young.
This week we spotlight a pair of O’Brien’s and Rockwell gigs from a few weekends back that range from the jangly indie/power-pop sounds of headliners Really Great and Beeef to the alt-country-tinged Hey I’m Outside, the twee-punk-via-Zappa zaniness of Harmony’s Cuddle Party and beyond. Scroll for some galleries and listening links below.
