Pile played The 4th Wall – 8/26
Hometown heroes Pile headlined a Monday night movie theater rager with PA’s Edhochuli and New Bedford’s Don’t Grow Old.
__________
I’ve seen Pile play lots of places over the years – tiny clubs, regular clubs, Elks Lodge, massive festival stage, basement – but movie theater is a first. The 4th Wall – one of Boston’s newest DIY spots – isn’t so much a venue as a gig series taking place at Arlington’s Capitol Theatre, and it raises a reasonable question of why we’re not doing more movie theater gigs around here. Digital Awareness put the big screen to use with trippy, hyper-saturated visuals all night, and you even had access to a full-blown ice cream parlor in the lobby. Top-tier unconventional venue space.
Bands, also pretty great. Don’t Grow Old, hailing from the South Shore, opened things up with a frantic noise rock/screamo assault that nearly got me hit in the face with a guitar at one point (no offense taken). Pittsburgh’s Edhochuli delivered a double-drummer heavy psych jam session. And Pile, with some heavy new songs and some old favorites in their arsenal, were, well, Pile.
All in all, great first impression for a new spot; check out their upcoming events here and check out a bevy of photos from the evening below.
