Lunar Ark, The Outlourdes played O’Brien’s Pub – 3/22

A heavy Friday night at OB’s featured a local lineup rounded out by Tears From a Grieving Heart and Mollusk.

Sometimes, the only appropriate way to begin a weekend is to spend a few hours getting absolutely pummeled by riffs, which is exactly what 80 or so folks did at a sold-out O’Brien’s rager last Friday. Sludgy two-piece Mollusk got things started amidst a swirling green backdrop courtesy of The Dregs Liquid Light Show, and funeral doom crew Tears From a Grieving Heart followed up with a crushing set that debuted a brand new song. The Outlourdes‘ exuberant heaviness offered the most straight-up fun set of the night, and the always-immense Lunar Ark closed things out by bringing some post-metal expanse to the gig. It was a great bill uniting some likeminded but still sonically diverse luminaries of Boston’s rich heavy music scene.
