Gig Watch: December 2023

The Scrooges at O’Brien’s, December 2022

Shows not to miss in and around Boston for the month of December.

__________

The holidays are here and touring season’s slowing down, but December’s still got a few choice gigs to offer. My picks below.

12/3 – Body Void / Sea / Glacier / Lesser Glow @ Sonia

Vermont doom-sludge trio Body Void top this absolute monster of a bill, showcasing some of New England’s finest and heaviest. Bring the earplugs.

12/5 – Bar Italia @ Brighton Music Hall

Enigmatic London post-punk trio Bar Italia make their Boston debut, supporting their pair of 2023 LPs Tracey Denim and The Twits.

12/7 – Model/Actriz @ Brighton Music Hall

A big year for the formerly Boston-based dance-punk-noise-rockers rolls on, as they headline a show several times the size of their O’Brien’s date back in April.

12/9 – The Scrooges @ O’Brien’s Pub

Speaking of OB’s, their annual holiday toy drive returns this year with everyone’s favorite crew of hard-drinking, Stooges-covering Santas. Admission free with an unwrapped toy or gift card!

12/13 – Bask @ O’Brien’s Pub

North Carolina’s Bask are celebrating 10 years as a band in 2023, and taking their brand of Americana stoner-psych on the road with an Allston stop.

12/15 – Hallelujah the Hills @ The Sinclair

Wordy folk-rockers Hallelujah the Hills are still in the midst of working on their ambitious 52-song Deck project, but they’ll come up for air to headline a big December show at The Sinclair with help from fellow locals Eldridge Rodriguez and Aaron & the Lord.

Horrendous at the Paradise, April 2017

12/27 – Horrendous / Outer Heaven @ Ralph’s Rock Diner

I don’t always advocate for a weeknight drive to Worcester, but the trek will be worthwhile for a team-up of these two modern death metal greats (who also happened to put out two of the best heavy records of the year).
