Blood Lightning played Middle East Upstairs – 11/25

Local metal supergroup Blood Lightning headlined a post-Thanksgiving record release show at the Mid East with support from Kind, Casket Rats and Lipsmear.

__________

It struck me ahead of Saturday night’s gig in Central Square that it’d been entirely too long since I’d taken in a proper, ear-splitting, small-room metal show. Had to remedy that, and a locally-focused four-band ripper topped by Blood Lightning was just the solution. The Boston four-piece boasts familiar faces from Gozu, Worshipper and Sam Black Church playing throwback heavy metal that hits all the right marks, and their headlining set on Saturday night celebrated the recent release of their great debut LP via Ripple Music.

Labelmates Kind provided direct support with their stomping brand of heavy stoner-psych, while Casket Rats threatened to steal the show with their in-your-face Motörheadisms and Lipsmear kicked things off with some groovy gothic post-punk flavor. The Dregs Liquid Light Show was also on hand to keep things looking appropriately trippy. It was a stacked evening all in all, and you can check out a gallery from the whole thing below.
