Squitch played Yellow Mailbox – 6/30
Locals Squitch closed out the month of June with a record release show, joined by Pile’s Rick Maguire, The Croaks and Donna Revving.
__________
Boston art-rock greats Squitch are calling it quits this year, but they’ve given us a parting gift in their wonderful new record Tumbledown Mountain. Ahead of a short July run of supporting dates, the band put on a release show celebration last month at Somerville DIY spot Yellow Mailbox, which drew a packed crowd of friends and admirers (who made the best of a sweltering night free of AC). Squitch sounded great, as they always do, reminding me what a bummer it’ll be to not reliably catch them on bills around town anymore.
On the direct support, Pile mastermind Rick Maguire played a gorgeous solo set which took some of the deconstructed post-rock tendencies of this year’s All Fiction to even sparer and more dreamlike spaces.
Check out a gallery from the night, including fun sets from The Croaks and Donna Revving, below. (And mark your calendar for Squitch’s final gig next month, a stacked bill alongside Rong, Pink Navel and Kind Being at Crystal Ballroom).
