Squirrel Flower played the ICA – 7/23

Singer/songwriter Ella Williams brought a pair of contemplative solo sets to the ICA’s back porch last Friday.

As Boston’s museums gingerly approach normal operations once more, the ICA has quietly booked a killer lineup for its outdoor Summer Fridays series on the waterfront. Tonight brings singer Miranda Rae, while August is rounded out by local favs Sidney Gish, Oompa and Photocomfort. Admission to the gigs is free with a regular museum ticket (which also gets you into the eye-popping Virgil Abloh installation). Can’t argue with that!

Last Friday was a picture-perfect evening to take in an early and late(r) set from Williams, whose excellent new LP under the Squirrel Flower moniker dropped in June. Errant fog horns and swells in conversation prodded their way into Williams’ hushed voice-and-guitar presentation on occasion, but her enthralling songs won that battle with ease. Plenty of folks in the crowd clearly made the trip all the way out to Seaport just for her, too. That comes as no surprise, really, given that Williams packed in a sell-out crowd for one of the last-ever shows at Allston’s Great Scott last year.

A lovely night all around, pricey gin and tonics included. Check out a small gallery below.
