The past week was not the most fun one in music-dom, between the loss of Unwound’s Vern Rumsey, the release of the final posthumous solo recordings by Jason Molina and the one year anniversary of the passing of David Berman – three guys without whom my record collection would look very different. In tribute, this week’s mix kicks off with one of my favorite Silver Jews songs, touches on the great Household Gods record released in June and featuring both Rumsey and Slint’s David Pajo, and features a highlight from Molina’s Eight Gates. Plus: Kenyan noise music, luminous Jon Hopkins and some jazz.
