Noise Floor Radio Volume 56

Parliament-Funkadelic at Rockland Trust Bank Pavilion, June 2019

Number 56 in a weekly series of Noise Floor-curated playlists.

We’re all over the sonic map this week, from a droning Jon Hassell composition to some classic post-bop and Parliament along with new music from Sonic Boom, Gia Margaret, Pink Siifu and the striking new Drakeo the Ruler LP – recorded direct from prison as the L.A. rapper awaits a deeply questionable (re)trial, in a most 2020 statement.

It’s a Bandcamp exclusive for now, so no playlist appearance, but I also can’t recommend highly enough the Father/Daughter Records tribute to Adam Schlesinger that dropped today. There’s 31 covers of Schlesinger’s power-pop gems from the likes of Jeff Rosenstock, Tanya Donelly, Sadie Dupuis, Ted Leo and Nada Surf, and proceeds benefit the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund.

Lastly, if you’re looking for something actionable and doom metal-related this week, you could do worse than buying one of these excellent Master of Reality-riffing shirts from the Black Sabbath webstore to benefit the Black Lives Matter Globe Network.
