Pile played Makeout Point – 8/17

Local luminaries Pile played a surprise basement gig at Allston’s Makeout Point on Friday night with Treadles, Jupiter Styles and Prior Panic.

Catching a Pile set outside of a good-sized club is a rarity in Boston these days, which made Friday’s last-minute addition to one of the final Makeout Point shows a cause for excitement. The band bookended with some old favorites (always a treat to hear “Special Snowflakes”), but focused the bulk of the set on some bruising new material that has my interest (even more) piqued for the followup to last year’s A Hairshirt of Purpose.

Fellow locals Prior Panic opened the night with a special duo set, while Chicago’s Jupiter Styles and New Orleans collective Treadles rounded out the bill. Check out some gritty, grainy images from the whole bill below.
