Scenes from Out of the Blue Too’s Bowie Tribute Night
We lost David Bowie last Sunday, and the impact was hard to take. A sense of mourning has hung over the entirety of the music community this week, but at Cambridge’s Out of Blue Too gallery on Thursday night, a host of local musicians translated our collective grief into a vibrant celebration of Bowie’s incredible body of work. With Labyrinth projected above the crowd, which packed just about every inch of the gallery, acts including Sun Young, Dead Elect, A. Campbell Payne and many more covered most every fan favorite and some deep cuts for good measure (Dead Elect’s “Black Country Rock” shredded). The tributes ranged from simple guitar and voice performances to crowd participation dance parties (Payne), totally unhinged noise sets (Johnnie and the Foodmasters), haunting drones (Jarva Land) and beyond. The night was as weird and multifaceted as Bowie himself, and one suspects he would’ve been proud. Photos from the whole night below.
