Major Stars played Charlie’s Kitchen – 10/1
Cambridge’s Harvard Square played host to a wild double-header on a recent Monday night, with U.K. firebrands Shame tearing up The Sinclair followed by local heavy-psych heroes Major Stars playing a tour-kickoff gig upstairs at Charlie’s.
As I’ve written before, and will write again, one should never miss a Major Stars gig. Nobody does searing riff-damage quite like them, and the new songs they road-tested on this evening before heading out on tour sounded killer. I didn’t catch first openers Boston Cream, but made it in time for Bong Wish, whose pastoral psych was an excellent complement.
Shockingly, this was the first time I’d ever shot a gig at Charlie’s, despite it being my go-to beer and grilled cheese spot in Harvard. Particularly for a Major Stars show, the Christmas lights, mirrored walls and neon felt like a perfect setting.
